Lela Eloise (Louise) Nelson, 80 passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Desert Springs Nursing Home in Hobbs, NM. She was born on August 24, 1938 in Hobbs, NM to William and Ada Bell Maxwell.
Louise met the love of her life, Merl L. Nelson and they were married on January 10, 1958 in Plains, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2014. They traveled where work was available and then settled in Lovington, NM in the early 60's. To this union they had 2 sons Steve of Hobbs and Craig Nelson of Lovington. Louise and Merl created a marriage that lasted 56 years and a loving bond that will never be broken.
Louise was a homemaker and for 30 years she was a bookkeeper for Nelson Construction. She loved to cook for her family and always looked forward to holidays or any special occasion so that she could do so. Spending time with family and friends was her favorite pastime. She also going to watch her grandkids in their many activities and also loved her dog more than life itself.
Other than being a wonderful wife, mom and grandmother she built a loving home full of precious memories. The mountains of Ruidoso, NM were her most favorite place in this world. Though it's been years since she has been, the mountains are once again calling her name and she will be reunited with the love of her life in the most beautiful place.
Louise had a heart of gold and a loving hand that touched everyone around.
She is survived by 2 sons: Steve Nelson and wife Melissa, of Hobbs, NM Craig Nelson of Lovington and special friend Pat Dauphinais; 4 grandchildren: Cole Nelson of Moore,OK, Stefani Kenny and husband Lance of Lovington, NM, Kaleb Adams and wife Mireya of Hobbs, NM; 7 great grandchildren: Avery, Addison, Kaden, Brooklyn, and Allison of Lovington, Miley and Mikah of Hobbs, and Brooklyn and Brayden of Hobbs. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother.
The Nelson Family would like to express their gratitude to all the family and friends for their many prayers and words of encouragement. They also would like to express their gratitude to the Desert Springs Nursing Home in Hobbs, NM for the love and care of Louise during her time there.
Cremation will be taking place at a later date.
The family would like those who would want to pay their respects to please come by the home of Steve and Melissa Nelson at 1116 E. Green Acres in Hobbs, on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
