Alejandro Enríquez Sr. was born on December 4, 1937, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, México, to Pedro and Margarita Enríquez. He passed away on October 20, 2025, in Hobbs, New Mexico, surrounded by the love of his family.
From a young age, Alejandro loved music and dancing. As a boy, he shined shoes to earn enough to attend local dances where, at one of those gatherings, he met the love of his life, Manuela Garcia. They were married on December 23, 1959, and shared 63 wonderful years together before her passing on March 24, 2023.
Alejandro proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting in April 1956. His service as a cook inspired a lifelong joy for preparing meals for his family especially his signature “SOS” and his famous holiday turkeys. Cooking for his loved ones became a heartfelt extension of the honor he felt while serving his brothers in arms.
A hardworking and humble man, Alejandro never met a stranger. His warm smile, sense of humor, and easy conversation left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. After a long day’s work, he often continued into the evening doing what he loved most, carpentry and home repairs. Much of his work was done simply out of kindness, a reflection of his generous heart and servant spirit.
In his fifties, Alejandro fulfilled his dream of working for himself full-time, practicing the craft he loved. Around this time, he also faced one of his greatest battles, cancer and triumphed. His family was blessed with 36 more precious years with him, years filled with laughter, faith, and love.
A devout Catholic, Alejandro was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hobbs, where he faithfully served in many roles, including lector, usher, and board chair. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and he could often be found reading his Bible and offering prayers for those he loved.
Alejandro was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Manuela Enríquez; his son, Jesse Enríquez; grandson, Derek Esqueda; great-grandson, Andrew Garcia; his parents, Pedro and Margarita Enríquez; and siblings Marcos, Luis, Pedro, and Pantaleon Enríquez, Margarita Robinson, Esmerelda Enríquez, and Guadalupe Del Toro.
He is survived by his children: Alex Enríquez Jr. (and his partner, Christina Viesca of Hobbs, NM); Lizett Aguilar (husband, Leonard) of Carlsbad, NM; Michelle Garcia (husband, Mike) of La Vernia, TX; and Jennifer Enríquez of Midlothian, TX. He is also survived by his brothers Juan Enríquez of San José, CA, and Rodolfo Enríquez of Uvalde, TX; his sister María Alma Valdez of Hutto, TX; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
