Alpha Williams

Alpha Eudora Gearldine Mason Williams, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at her home at the age of 94. She was born to Alonzo and Maggie Mason in Stroud, Oklahoma on July 30, 1922. Alpha was the twelfth child of fourteen children. She met and married John Z. Williams in Walters, Oklahoma on June 29, 1940. They moved to Texas City, Texas. John was employed with Montezuma Chemical Company until entering the Army. Alpha returned to Oklahoma and was employed by Civil Service to work in the nursing field in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and Ft. Lenordwood, Missouri. After John was discharged from the Army they moved to Hobbs in June of 1949. Alpha was involved in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Civil Defense, Home Extension Club and taught Red Cross classes. She was a member of the Church of Christ and participated in mission trips, church camp, WBS and taught Sunday School. In 1969 she earned her RN Degree and worked for Nor-Lea in Lovington, Lea Regional in Hobbs and for a nursing service before she retired. Gerri loved being a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Z. Williams; granddaughter and her husband, Gearldine and Richard Solovic; son-in-law, Charley E. Kendrix; eight brothers and five sisters. Survivors include her son, John Jr. (Su) of Dallas, TX; daughter, Judy Kendrix, whom she lived with, of Hobbs; grandchildren , Linda Deming of Hobbs, Jennifer Welty (Becky) of Santa Fe, David Welty of Hobbs, Todd Williams and Stephanie Reedy of Dallas, TX; great grandchildren, Kristen Lee, Melissa Bartlett (Zack), Kaila Solovic (Bryan), Colby (Harlee) Deming, Colin Deming and Cody Reedy; great-great grandchildren, Shanley Nava, Raychel Nava, Nick Solovic, Madalyn Bartlett and soon to be, Kaybree Berry.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel with Elder D.A. Cochran, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
