Barbara Velasques

Barbara Nickles Velasques, 52, of Hobbs, passed away, Friday, May 3, 2013 in Lubbock, TX. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Ruben Romero, celebrant. A rosary will be recited 6:00 PM, Tuesday at Griffin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Velasques was born on November 29, 1960 in Carlsbad, NM to Anatalio and Ramona Nickles. She married Joe Velasques on November 27, 1985 in Seminole, Texas and they celebrated over 25 wonderful years of marriage. Mrs. Velasques received her Associate Degree in Applied Science from New Mexico Junior College and also had a CNA License. She worked as a Librarian at Lea County Correctional Facility an ESL instructor and as a liaison for ES Parents. Barbara coached basketball at Broadmoor Elementary School and served as PTA President for 2 years. She loved to read, crochet baby blankets, sew and scrapbook but her true love was her family. Mrs. Velasques was preceded in death by her brother, Angelito Nickles paternal grandfather, Alberto Sanchez Nickles paternal grandmother, Alejandra Garcia maternal grandparents, Senobio and Ester Mendoza uncles, Mike Nickles, Alberto Nickles, Jr., Albino Nickles, Sr., Augustine Mendoza, LV Mendoza aunts, Mercy Nickles and Leandra Lozano great grandparents, Gomizindo and Esiquiel Urias Lopez and motherinlaw, Cruz Velasques.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Velasques of the home daughter, JoAngela Velasques of York, PA son, Anatalio Nickles, III of Portales, NM parents, Anatalio and Ramona Nickles of Hobbs sister, Bonnie Juarez and husband, Armando of Hobbs brothers, Anatalio Nickles, Jr. and wife, Leticia of Laredo, TX and Alberto Nickles and wife, Joylynne of North Carolina nieces and nephews, Jazz Juarez, Armando Juarez, Jr., Sonia Nickles, Shady Nickles, Amanda Nickles, Anatalio Nickles, IV, Isidro Castillo, Sergio Castillo, Anthony Castillo, Eliseo Castillo, Lorena Castillo, Cruz Castillo, Gloria Castillo, Jessica Velasques, Monica Velasques, Regina Velasques, Nathan Velasques and CJ Velasques aunts and uncles, Petra Nickles, Marylee Nickles, Johnny Nickles, Angie and Sam Marquez, Becky and Albert Ramirez, Lonnie Nickles, Pete and Patsy Nickles, Frances and Manuel Chacon, Henry Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia, Mary Helen Garcia, Rosa Garcia, Graciela and Enrique Munoz and Senobio Mendoza, Jr.
