Billy Shields, Sr.

Billy Ray Shields, Sr., 79, of Hobbs passed away March 8, 2017 in Hobbs. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Prairie Haven Memorial Park with Pastor Zach Souter, officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00-8:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.

Billy was born on July 13, 1937 in Crystal City, Texas to B.C. and Modene Shields. He married Alma Gordon and they celebrated over 55 years of wonderful marriage until her death in 2012. Billy worked in the oilfields most of his life. He enjoyed listening to music. Billy was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jimmy Shields.

Survivors include sons, Billy Ray Shields, Jr., (Michelle) of Hobbs, Jerry Shields of Hobbs, Joe Shields, (Connie) of Timberon, NM and Jimmy Shields, (Randee) of Okinawa, Japan; daughters, Cathy Cox, (Dan) of Ratliff City, OK, Sharon Sparkman, (Barry) of Elberta, AL and Carol Gober, (Don) of Hobbs; brothers, John Shields and Robert Shields and sisters, Helen Welch and JoAnn Cobb.
