After a long illness, the Denton family lost its patriarch, Cecil Eugene (Gene) Denton of Hobbs, NM on July 9, 2015. Services will be held at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Gene was born on November 30, 1928 in Lamesa, Texas to James T., Sr. and Zoe G. Denton. He proudly served Lea County for 27 years as a Deputy Sheriff, Under Sheriff, and Lea County's acting Jail Administrator until his retirement. Gene and his wife Glenna loved to spend time fishing or just watching the waves from their lake home in Logan, NM, and especially loved to fish for salmon at Heron Lake in Chama, NM. They attended Cowboy Junction Church until his health declined. Mr. Denton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James T. Denton, Jr. and Howard G. Denton and his cherished son and grandson, Jackie and Justin Denton.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Glenna F. Denton, one brother Boyd Lee Denton of Bradenton, Florida; his son, Jimmy Denton and wife Ann of Logan, NM and his daughter Lou Jean Clampitt and husband, Mike of Hobbs. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, Tami Stroh and husband Don, Holli Denton, and Dyan Denton, Lance Anderson and wife Jennifer, Dana Huntsman and husband Sean, Ashley Reyes and husband Daniel; fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren with another on the way.
