Claud Long

Claud Long, 82, of Hobbs, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Chidester, officiating and Masonic rites provided by Hobbs Masonic Lodge 63 AF AM. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park

Claud was born on July 2, 1931in Seminole, Oklahoma to Lewis and Pauline Long. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS George K. MacKenzie in the South Pacific during the Korean Conflict. Claud married Mildred Hicks Cartwright on December 18, 1987 in Lovington. He received an associate degree from New Mexico Junior College. Claud retired from the Hobbs Gas Company in 2003 as VicePresident of Operations where he had worked for over 50 years. He had served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church since 1973 and loved his Sunday School class. Claud was Past Master of the Hobbs Masonic Lodge and District Deputy Grand Lecturer of 8th Masonic District a member of the York Rite, Lea County Shriners, Red Cross of Constantine and the Gideons. He was preceded in death by his parents daughter, Debbie Moler two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Long children, Tammy Compton and husband, Steve, Terry Taylor and wife, Kathleen and Karen Ann Taylor sisters, Vonda Boothe and husband, Lewis Ray and Stella Jo Cox and husband, Dale grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor, Kenzie Compton, Chad Taylor and wife, Diana and Dr. Tiffany Taylor and great grandchildren, Kayden Taylor, Jonah Z. Taylor and Brynn AliseTaylorMurrish.
