As an accomplished athlete and excellent student, she graduated from Forsan High School in 1955. While at a Hoyle Nix dance in Stanton, TX, Doris met the love of her life, Vernon E. Cannon. They married and relocated to Hobbs, NM in 1956.

As a working young mother of two boys, Doris entered x-ray school and graduated as a certified x-ray technician. She worked at Lea General Hospital, a private orthopedic medical practice, and at Norte Vista Medical Clinic her entire career. In addition to x-ray, Doris continued her education and became certified in ultrasound and mammography. She always cherished her relationship with her coworkers and patients. She was a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Cannon in 2011, her parents and siblings. Doris and Vernon also loved to travel in their motorhome to visit family. Doris was an amateur artist and loved crafts. She enjoyed having her families visit and preparing holiday meals using the family recipes passed down from her mother.
