Elouise Egans

Elouise Egans, 83, of Hobbs, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 27, 2017 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend J.J. Joiner, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. A Wake will be on Sunday the 26th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Home.

Elouise was born on December 26, 1933 in New Orleans, LA to Elijah and Celestine Lyons. She married Charles Egans, Sr. and they celebrated over 38 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 1982. After Elouise lost her special needs son, Charles Egans, Jr. in 1970, it inspired her to go back to school and become a special education teacher. She received her Master's degree and worked as a special education teacher for 21 years. Elouise loved to knit, sew, crochet and take care of her plants, but her true love was being with her grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Zula Mae Beals; brother, Elijah Lyons, Jr., great granddaughter, Alavia Edwards-Cleaver, and her ex-husband, Frances Armstrong. Survivors include her daughters, Gail Cleaver (Jesse) of Tyler, TX, Sherrie Martin (Zach) of Kaplin, LA and Glenda Egans of Hobbs; son, Robert Egans (Cynthia) of Hobbs; godchild, Soraya Smith (Mike) of Hobbs; grandchildren, LaTosha Cleaver, Jesse Cleaver, Jr., Rataisha Greene, Corey Hamilton, Robert Egans, Jr., Amber Egans Lewis, Danisha Egans, Tracy Egans, Shereta Broach and Mark Hester; 17 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
