Fernando Martinez Jr.

Fernando Martinez Jr., age 71, of Hobbs, New Mexico, went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2025, in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Fernando was born on September 25, 1954, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando Martinez Sr. and Hortencia Martinez; his beloved wife, Gloria Martinez; and one daughter, Diane Martinez.

He was a loving father, a devoted man of God, and an amazing grandfather. Fernando was known for his kind heart, his ability to fix just about anything, and his deep love for people. He never met a stranger and was famous for greeting everyone with his signature “dude” and a warm smile. His faith was evident in how he lived, loved, and served others.

Fernando is survived by his children: daughter Leticia Martinez; son Fabian Martinez and daughter-in-law Lory Martinez; and daughter Lori Heckard and son-in-law Cory Heckard.

He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Vanessa Espinoza, Cierra Heckard, Jordan Munoz (Karime), Jadyn Campos, Hayley Acs (Kaleb), Ky Heckard, Jaysiah Martinez, K’Leigh Heckard, Kadynce Thompson, and Yamilexy Heredia. He is also survived by one cherished great-grandson, Graham Acs.

Fernando is also survived by his brothers: Salvador Martinez; Mauro Martinez (Linda); Samuel Martinez (Elvia); Rafael Martinez; and Felipe Martinez. He is survived by his sisters: Elizabeth Martinez; Rosie Gomez (Richard); and Lydia Gabaldon (Albert).

He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who were blessed by his kindness, faith, and steady presence.
