Gladys Jelinek

Gladys L. Jelinek, 91, of Hobbs passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Stewart L. Sherrill, officiating. Interment follows in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday the 17th from 1:00-7:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Home.

Gladys was born on July 30, 1924 in Jones County, Texas to Bennett and Etta Dee Caudill. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1942. Gladys met the love of her life, Sgt. Robert Jelinek while he was stationed at the Hobbs Army Airbase. They married on October 15, 1945 in Miami Beach, Florida and celebrated over 55 years of wonderful marriage until his death in 2000. She loved growing flowers and enjoyed sewing. Gladys was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was very active in her church, taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Gladys loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys was also preceded in death by her parents and 5 sisters

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Cantrell of Hobbs; son, Dr. Mark Jelinek and wife, Roxanne of Bloomsburg, PA; grandchildren, Sara Box and husband, Gary of Hobbs, Kristen Winebrenner and husband, Lee of Bristol, PA and Michael Jelinek of Harrisburg, PA; great grandchildren, Caden Streun, Makenzee Box, Kelcee Box and Tyler Box; numerous nieces and nephews.
