Celebration of Hazel Barber Hilliard born April 1, 1929-Feb. 21, 2015.

Earnest and Lucy Garrett Barber had a beautiful daughter Hazel Barber Hilliard born April 1, 1929 in DeKalb, Texas. They moved to west Texas and settled down in a small town of Stanton, in 1930, with eight brothers and three sisters. Ms. Hazel was among the first black students to attend Stanton schools for colored in 1936-37. Our God spread his wings and carried her home Feb. 21, 2015 in Lubbock.

Hazel Barber Hilliard proceeded in death by her loving husband Henry Jewel Hilliard, her parents, eight brothers and three sisters. Ms. Hazel leaves an abundance of nieces and nephews.

A viewing is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Friday at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs. A Saturday morning ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Scharbauer Street Church of Christ, 415 W. Scharbauer St. in Hobbs. The burial will take place afterward at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton, Texas.
