Janice Rae Pointer

Janice Rae Pointer, our wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend was promoted to glory on September 6, 2024, at the age of 82.

Janice was born on March 2, 1942, in Ponca, Nebraska, to her parents Lawrence Bourn and Ruth (Williams) Bourn. Her family grew up on a farm and enjoyed working the land. Jan was a 4H Club member for 7 years, working Brown Swiss, foods, and garden and flower projects earning recognition, trophies, and a representation as Dairy Princess. For fun and relaxation, Jan still enjoyed working with her hands through gardening and crafts, often making gifts and giveaways for family, friends, and random people she encountered.

On June 3, 1977, Janice married Billy Pointer, Sr., and they moved with Janice’s children to Hobbs, NM, to start a life together. Jan became involved in volunteering for various community programs, and with her church, The Salvation Army. Jan eventually hired on at The Salvation Army and began a 40+ year career journey working in the social services department, then as the Bookkeeper, and lastly as the Thrift Store manager. While in the social services department, she became affectionally known as “Ms. Jan, the Lady in Black” to all the clients and SS partners. Jan loved God with all her heart, and it showed. She wanted everyone to know that God loves them, and that they can have His forgiveness. Kind, giving, caring, helpful, funny, reliable, and down to earth are words used to describe Jan, coming straight from the people whose lives she has touched.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her older sister Pat, and her husband, Billy, Sr. She is survived by her children - daughters Laurie Pellissier (Robert) of Hobbs, Kimberlee Braziel (Teddie) of Brownfield, TX, son Timothy Stuber (Michelle) of Lovington, daughter Michelle Tate (Curtis) of Lamesa, TX, and daughter-in-law Vickie Stuber of Hobbs; two brothers Lawrence and Rodney of Oregon; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
