Joe Angel Pena "Joe Daddy"

In Loving Memory

Jose Angel Peña (AKA Joe Daddy) passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, June 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on January 26, 1955, in Tahoka, Texas. He lived a life filled with music, laughter, love, and unwavering faith.

Joe’s childhood stomping ground, along with all the Peña clan, was Denver City, Texas, where he developed the free bird spirit and kind heart that everyone who knew him came to cherish. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He truly lived life to the fullest.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Francisco and Elisa Carrasco Ortiz, his parents, Henry Villareal Peña, Enedina Ortiz Peña, and baby brother, Henry Peña, Jr. He was one of thirteen siblings and shared a lifelong bond with his brothers and sisters.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his children: Christina Michelle, Cynthia Ann, Crystal Iris, and Jose Angel Peña III; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, his siblings, Silvia Rodela, Paul Ortiz Peña, Albert Peña, Ruben Peña, Carolina Lechner, James Peña, Adela Cuel, Felix Peña, Francisco Peña, Aurther “Phillip” Peña, Lupe Boyle along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Griffin Funeral home, with visitation from 3:00 to 8:00 PM with a praying of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM Texas time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plains, Texas. Burial will immediately follow at Plains Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of a life well lived. Our hearts are heavy with his passing, however, we find comfort in knowing that Joe’s faith carried him home, free from pain and reunited with those who went before him. His legacy of love, music, and living life without regrets will continue through all who had the privilege of knowing him.
