Juanita Cook

August 31, 1927 — February 18, 2013

Juanita Cook

Juanita Cook was born to Wortham and Mary Carroll on August 31, 1927, in Valera, Texas. She married Gaines Cook on July 14, 1946. In 1956 Juanita and Gaines moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, and later owned and operated Hobbs Anchor and Road Boring Services for many years.

Juanita loved music and played the piano by ear. When she was a young girl, the Methodist preachers wife showed her a few chords on the piano and she found she had a talent. After moving to Hobbs she joined and attended Asbury Methodist Church where she taught first grade Sunday school class. She was a wonderful mother to her son and daughter and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved people and they loved her because she was so genuine and kind. Always thinking of others, she would take food to the widow down the street or to the families of people who passed away. She had many friends.

She died at The Good Samaritan of Lovington on February 18, 2013. She is survived by a son, Pete and his wife, Kathleen Cook of Alamogordo. A daughter, Carolyn Cummings and her husband David Cummings of Lovington. Four grandchildren Lisa Hanchett and Peter Cook both from Albuquerque, NM. Deedra and her husband Robin Terrell, Angie and husband Kevin Bachmann all from Lovington. Eight great grandchildren Zoe and Tyler Hanchett, Alex Cook, Carter Diamond, Chase and Cason Terrell, and Mia and Myles Bachmann. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Gaines Cook.
