Manuela Criswell, born on January 13, 1941, in Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away peacefully in Hobbs, New Mexico, on August 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and connection that touched the lives of many. She dedicated 20 years of her working life to Bootsies, a retail establishment where her vibrant social personality shone through as she interacted with customers and coworkers alike.
An active participant in various sororities during her educational journey, Manuela’s love for community and camaraderie was evident in everything she did. She had a remarkable ability to forge friendships and create bonds, knowing someone everywhere she went. Her lively spirit was complemented by her passion for shopping, where she enjoyed matching her outfits with her extensive collection of purses—a striking 64 bags in total, alongside an impressive array of boots and clothing. Some with tags still attached to them.
Manuela cherished the color red, a reflection of her bold personality and zest for life. Whether she was ensuring her nails were painted in her favorite hue or displaying her stylish outfits, she embodied a vibrant and joyful presence. Her love for her family was unwavering; she wanted nothing more than to see her son Johnny happy and thriving. Besides him, she was the proud grandmother of two, the delighted great-grandmother of five, and the lively great-great-grandmother of five, creating a rich tapestry of family that filled her heart with joy.
Her personal interests extended beyond shopping; she adored her puppies, which brought companionship and joy into her life. Interestingly, she only cooked on Thanksgiving— which is also why her stove looked brand new.
The memory of Manuela Criswell will be celebrated in a Memorial Service on August 26, 2024, at 11am at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs, NM. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her radiant spirit and the love she shared throughout her life.
Manuela is survived by her loving son, Johnny; two loving daughters Tanya, and Velia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; Johnny's ex-wife Aurora her kids Robert, Marissa, Raquel; Aurora's grandchildren Andy, Joseph, Analy, and Uriel, who will all continue to carry her light within their hearts. She is preceded in death by her beloved siblings—Abel, Joe, Lilian, and Alicia—all of whom now reunite with her in the embrace of everlasting peace.
As we remember her, we hold dear the indelible mark she left on our lives—a reminder of the joy found in connection, love, and simply being ourselves.
