Nancy Henry

Nancy Iola Cain Henry passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 in Hobbs. She was born September 4, 1919 in Hobbs and delivered into this would by her aunt, Grandma Hobbs. Her parents, Sam Ellis Cain and Lora Stafford Cain were early settlers in Lea County. Growing up with three older brothers and a sister was quite an adventure in early Lea County. She told many funny stories about those early days. Iola attended school in Hobbs and graduated from Hobbs High.

On, January 12, 1935, she eloped and married William F. Jack Gray. They had a daughter, Harriet Gray Gregory. She later married Joe Henry and they had two sons, Terry Henry and Chris Henry. Iola drove a school bus for 60 years and had perfect attendance for 54 years. She taught CDL classes had many bus driving trophies and was the State School Bus Champion twice.

Iola loved to play the piano and also played the accordion and harmonica. Mrs. Henry was an excellent seamstress and liked to knit and enjoyed dancing. She loved all animals, especially her little yorkie, Baby. Iola was a member of the Lea County Sheriffs Posse, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents sister, Verdie Humble brothers, Von Cain, Sam Cain and Kenneth Cain and a special friend, Eb Allensworth.

Survivors include her daughter, Harriet Gregory sons, Chris Henry and Terry Henry of Crockett, CA grandchildren, Susan Yates of Houston, Doug Gregory of Hobbs, Julie Rodriguez of Hobbs, Sam Henry of Petaluma, CA and Leilani Sundquist of Clovis, NM 12 great grandchildren and 8 greatgreat grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dale Shook, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March14th from 5:007:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.
