Richard Isaiah ShortRichard Isaiah Short, age 40, of Eunice, New Mexico, passed away on July 14, 2026. He was born on July 8, 1986, in Hobbs, New Mexico.Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Short; grandfather, Dario Velasquez Sr.; and cousin, Sylvannah Barraza.Richard is survived by his beloved sister, Alyssa "Sis" Short, her husband, Jose Robles, and his nephew, Nash Robles. He is also survived by his father, Terry Short; Terry's wife, Summer Short; Macie and Mack; and his grandmother, Terry "Mamaw" Garcia.Richard also leaves behind his cherished "brothers and sisters from other mothers," as he fondly called them: Natalyn "Nat" Morgan(Guns Up), Joe Turnbull, Brian Young, DJ Velasquez, Spencer Roach, Alexis Heady, Richie Velasquez, Sylvia and Stewart Wood, and David "Debo" Gonzalez.He is further survived by his loving aunts and uncles: Donna Roach and her husband, Kelly Roach; Joann Pender and her husband, Jackie Pender; Richard Velasquez and his wife, Barbara Velasquez; and Dario Velasquez Jr. and his wife, Delma Velasquez. Richard is also survived by numerous cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.Richard touched the lives of many through his kindness, humor, loyalty, and the love he shared with those around him. He earned his paramedic license and had a deep passion for helping others, dedicating himself to serving those in need. Whether responding to emergencies or simply helping a friend, Richard never hesitated to lend a hand.He loved Chevy trucks, the open road, and living life in the fast lane. One of Richard's greatest passions was fishing. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the water, rod in hand, enjoying the peace and excitement that fishing brought him. He loved early mornings at the lake, swapping stories with friends, and the thrill of landing a big catch. Fishing wasn't just a hobby for Richard; it was a place where he felt at home.Richard also had a deep love for music. Whether it was playing on a truck radio, around friends, or driving down a dirt road, music was a constant part of his life and a reflection of his free spirit. His favorite songs and artists provided the soundtrack to countless memories shared with family and friends.He was known for the deep bonds he formed with family and friends, never meeting a stranger and always offering a helping hand when it was needed. His laughter, stories, quick wit, and larger-than-life personality brought joy to those around him and left lasting memories that will be treasured forever.Whether as a son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, or friend, Richard's presence was a gift to all who knew him. He valued family above all else and cherished the friendships that became family throughout his life. His strength, love, and unwavering loyalty will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
