Robert Torres, Jr., 52, of Hobbs, passed away, Friday, March 8, 2013 in Hobbs. A rosary will be recited 6:00 PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Griffin Funeral Home. On Wednesday, March 13th a rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM,CST at Guajardo Funeral Home, 407 N .University Ave, Lubbock, TX. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3111 Erskine St., Lubbock, TX. Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Torres was born on December20, 1960 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico to Robert and Marcelina Torres, Sr. He had worked at Oasis Gin, Inc. in Seminole, Texas since 2000 as head ginner and during that time helped establish Oasis Gin as the fastest single press gin in the world. Mr. Torres also held the record of 987 bales in 12 hours as the number one gin record in the nation. He loved to travel and visit his family. Mr. Torres was preceded in death by his father, Robert Torres, Sr.
Survivors include his daughters, Esmeralda Torres of Dallas, TX and Judy Torres of Dallas, TX sons, Robert Torres, III of Hobbs, Nick Garcia of Floydada, TX and Jason Sanchez of Floydada, TX mother, Marcilina Torres of San Antonio, TX 4 sisters 6 brothers 8 grandchildren and girlfriend, Cathy Gonzales.
