Sadie Marie Lopez Quiroz, 83, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away, peacefully, surrounded with family around her on February 20, 2026 in Roswell, New Mexico. Sadie was of the Catholic faith and loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and soul. Sadie was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Sadie was born in Leyba, New Mexico on June 6, 1942 to Portfirio Tapia and Irene Lopez, both who preceded her in death. Sadie was a housekeeper before she became ill. She had many hobbies, including going to garage sales to collecting brass figurines for her house .She enjoyed watching pro wrestling earlier in life, whether it was live or on the television. Sadie also had many hobbies, including arts and crafts from embroidering a blank, white western shirt beautifully to making magnetic kitchen crafts to share with family and friends.Sadie loved to have her yard at home landscaped beautifully and to her liking; especially her many different colors of roses and flowers. In her younger years, she was very handy from changing the oil or spark plugs in her vehicles to painting her house inside and out and decorating it always to perfection. Sadie was a very strong woman who took her responsibilities, especially her finances, seriously, and was usually always ahead on her payments. She loved, loved to play Bingo and watch Novelas and occasionally she would like to get away to the casino for a few hours of rest. In addition to her parents, Sadie is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Manuel B Quiroz, Her siblings; Alfonso, Pete, Leo, Joe Manuel, Corine and Josie; her son-in-law, Moises Barela(JJ), and four grandsons, Anthony, Ray, Manuelito, Bert (Gordo) and Angel. She was also proceeded by several dear nephews and nieces. Sadie had a memorial shrine in her home for all of her passed loved ones. Sadie is survived by her children, Juan Martinez, Beatrice Barela, Felipe Martinez, Tina Martinez, Eddie Martinez, Jacob and wife, Esperanza Martinez, Manuel A. Quiroz and Pete A. Quiroz, a brother Tommy and wife Charlene and her sisters, Delia, Terry, Linda and Dolores. The family would like to thank Dr. Simon of Nor Lea Medical Center, Interim Hospice and Gentiva Hospice staff Maureen, Amber, Tish M., Stacy, Rosalia, and Chaplain Tim for all the love and support and compassion you gave our mother.
Services will be under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home as follows: Tuesday, March 3 family visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM and public viewing from 11 until 8 PM with the reciting of the Holy Rosary at 6 PM. Wednesday, March 4, funeral services at 1 PM at Saint Helena Catholic Church with internment following at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. There will be a meal provided following at the Eagles Lodge at 1200 East White St. and everyone is welcome to come join the family and share a meal in honor of Sadie and to share memories.
