Shawnette Coombes

Shawnette Renee Coombes, 47, passed away early Saturday morning, August 16, 2014 at Lea Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 21, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Darren Skinner, officiating. Interment will be 2:30 pm in Tatum Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:007:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.

Shawnette was born on February 10, 1967 in Carlsbad, NM to Charles and Elaine Jones. She was the third of four children and grew up in Portales, NM. Shawnette graduated from Portales High School in 1985 attended Eastern New Mexico University and later graduated as a registered nurse from New Mexico Junior College. She married the love of her life, Garth Coombes on May 7th, 1988.

Shawnette worked at Lea Regional Hospital and Good Samaritan Village before going to work for Vista Care Hospice. So she could be with her children during the summers, she worked as the school nurse at College Lane Elementary. Shawnette was a Christian and regularly attended First United Methodist Church with her family and friends where she was very active.

Survivors include her husband, Garth Coombes children, Jacob and Sarah Coombes parents, Charles and Elaine Jones brother, Paul Jones, sister, Serenda Chacon father and motherinlaw, Malcolm and Harriet Coombes and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Jones in 1983.
