Theodore Doss

Theodore Herman Ted Doss, 90, of Hobbs, NM passed away in his sleep on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Hobbs Health Care after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hobbs. Inurnment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, CO. The family will receive friends from 4:006:00 PM, Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Griffin Funeral Home.
Ted was born in Hubbard Iowa and raised in Eldora, Iowa with five siblings. He was a skilled trumpeter and won a state championship while he was in high school. After graduation from high school, he moved to Denver, CO and met Ada Fern Lucht of Brush, CO who he married in 1946. They had three sons and later lived in Pueblo and Colorado Springs for eight years before returning to Denver in 1971. Ted worked for Montgomery Wards for over 20 years in Building Materials Sales. Ted had a great love for hunting and fishing in Colorado and he was an avid Denver Bronco fan. After the passing of Ada Fern in 1972, Ted relocated to Hobbs, NM in 1983. Ted was a skilled dancer and at one of these dances, met Lillie Rae Sziy of Hobbs. They married in 1987 and were able to make several very enjoyable trips to Europe and also to Houston to visit her children. Ted was able to get his fishing fix in Houston with many memorable fishing trips in the Gulf of Mexico. Lillie Rae preceded him in death in 2013. Ted was a devoted Lutheran and really enjoyed his weekly visits with Grace Lutheran Church Pastor David Reber, Jr. for fellowship and communion.
Ted is survived by two sisters Minnie Barz and Pauline Barz, both of Eldora, Iowa his sons Roger Doss LaDonna of St. Augustine, FL, Norman Doss Beth of Colorado Springs, CO, and Russ Doss Melissa of Hobbs, NM four grandchildren Dr. Ryan Doss Masey of Lubbock, TX, Rob Doss of San Antonio, TX, Meredith Doss of St. Augustine, FL, and Elizabeth Walker of Ocala, FL and four great grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by his parents Albert W. and Henrietta Doss, his brothers Max Doss and Armin Doss, and his sister Neva Mae Meyer.
