Ubaldo L Garcia “Jr” peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of November 21, 2025, in his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 18, 1952, in Raymondville, TX to Ubaldo (Walt) and Esperanza Garcia, he was raised with love, a hard work ethic and a dedication to succeed and teach others. Jr graduated from Hobbs High School in 1970 and thereafter attended the NMJC where he received his associates degree. He continued his education with a B.S. in Auto Tech from Pittsburg University in 1976, where he also forged a bond in brotherhood with the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Jr eventually returned to Hobbs and began teaching at the NMJC as an automotive teacher, while also helping in the family business. He then made a career change to the oilfield and worked as a mechanic for Halliburton, until his true passion came around with Mobil Oil in 1980. It was during this time he also met the love of his life, Yvonne Marie. They married in 1983 and shared 42 years together while raising their two sons, Amado and David. Jr’s career with Mobil started at the bottom and he worked his way up to be one of a few corrosion techs in the area, which lead him to work in Canada on various occasions. He eventually went into the chemical business in 1996 and worked as a chemical salesman until his last days. He dedicated himself to his customers and developed relationships that lasted and that became about more than business, developing bonds and friendships along the way.
Jr also loved to help others and to teach in many different areas. He coached his sons in many sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. He also coached girls fastpitch softball just so they could have a team that year. He was stern but fair and taught respect along with sportsmanship. Until this end of his life, while attending his grandkid’s games, you could often hear former players walk up and say, “Hey Coach, do you remember me?.” Jr also loved cars and the sport of drag racing. His love of working and engaging with people was his true passion. Jr had many friends and could always be found any given evening in his shop working on a car and hanging out with family and friends. His joy in life was his grandkids and attending their many sports events and dance recitals.
Jr is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Yvonne Marie Garcia of Hobbs, NM; his sons Amado Valdez and wife Lindsey and David Garcia and wife Jeany; his adored grandkids Eian Valdez, Emery Valdez, Arley Valdez, Summer Thomas, Evelyn Garcia, Paislee Garcia, and Jaxon Garcia. He is also survived by his brothers Tom Garcia (spouse Barry Morris) of Midland TX; Johnny M Garcia of Hobbs NM; his sister Adelita G. Carrasco of Midland TX; sister in-law Irene Garcia of Fort Worth TX; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Jr’s love of racing led him to develop strong bonds in the drag racing community and many friendships with people who became family to him… “You know it”!
Jr was preceded in death by his loving parents Ubaldo (Walt) and Esperanza Garcia of Hobbs NM and brother David Garcia of Fort Worth TX.
