Velma Bullok

Velma Ruth (Barrows) Bullok passed away April 10, 2015 in Hobbs NM, at 95 years old. Ruth was born to Lea County pioneers, George and Ernestine Barrows in Lovington, NM on May 12, 1919. On July 2, 1944 she married Carl Luther Bullok of Texico, NM at the home of her brother, James, in Clovis NM.

She is survived by her four children, Sue Witkowski (husband, John) of Allen, TX; Jim Bullok (wife, Cindy) of Hobbs NM; Chris Bullok (wife, Susan) of Campbell TX; Jerry Bullok (wife, Tracey) of Hobbs NM; eight granddaughters and 2 grandsons and six great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bullok, parents, five siblings, and one granddaughter.

Ruth and Carl thoroughly enjoyed many years of camping, hunting, fishing and boating. Ruth had a great love for northern New Mexico, and spent many hours fishing the streams and delighted in sharing her love of this activity with all the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was passionate about her family, and literally would do anything in her power for them. She also enjoyed many years teaching the young children's Sunday school classes in Redway, CA, Las Cruces, NM, as well as Hobbs, NM.

While residing in Hobbs NM, Ruth became active in the Hobbs Women's Civic Group, Red Hatters, as well as the Home Extension Club. Ruth had a great love for Taylor Street Church of Christ and these people were a big part of her extended family for which she had a great love. She was an avid walker, and could be spotted by dawn's early light walking the streets around her home, quietly humming old favorite hymns under her breath.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at 10 am at Taylor Street Church of Christ, Hobbs NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 New Mexico Hwy. 236, Portales, NM 88130 or Gentiva Hospice, 1515 W.
