Vernon Allen Pape, Sr., 83, of Hobbs, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Hobbs. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Darren Skinner, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by Fort Bliss Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 AM 8:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home.

Mr. Pape was born on January 26, 1929 in Texon, Texas to Delbert and Lura Pape. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Ruth Walker in 1948 in Odessa, Texas and they celebrated over 64 years of wonderful marriage. Mr. Pape retired from Union Supply Company after working for 35 years and worked for Watson Oilfield Supply in Eunice for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion and First United Methodist Church. Mr. Pape enjoyed listening to country and western music, working on the computer and loved his dog, Docker. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and sister.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home daughter, Evelyn Elayne Hanson and husband, Ernie of Midland, TX sons, Vernon Pape, Jr. and wife, Janie of Hobbs, Steven Bruce Pape and wife, Pam of Arlington, TX and David Mark Pape and wife, Tana of Lubbock, TX brother, Kerry Pape grandchildren, Samuel Grimes and wife, Joy, Tadd Grimes and wife, Krickett, Michelle Pape and husband, Jimmy Henson, Nicole Grant and husband, Chad, Vernon A. Pape, III, Jordan Pape and Jacob Pape great grandchildren, Mikayla Henson, Drake Grimes and Kiki Grimes.
