W. Modell Willis, 92, of Hobbs, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 19, 2017 at Griffin Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00-7:00 PM, Sunday the 18th at Griffin Funeral Home.
Modell was born on August 14, 1924 in Willow, Oklahoma to Seth and Oma Baker. She married Alva Willis on April 6, 1940 in Littlefield, Texas and they celebrated over 49 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 1990. Modell was a wonderful baker. She worked at Furr's Cafeteria for many years baking their pies and cakes; she also traveled to other Furrs's Cafeterias to train the other bakers. Modell will be remembered as the best cook in the world! She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing and loved to play bingo, but her true love was her family. Modell was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, LaJaunna (Bunny) Solomon of Los Lunas, NM and Gay McCullough of Midland, TX; brother, Jerry Baker of Andrews, TX; sister, Barbara Baker of Vega, TX; grandchildren, Eddie Solomon (Mickey) of Hobbs, Cindy Bascom (Steve) of Los Lunas, NM, Kristi Morrow (Neal) of Capitan, NM and Scott McCullough (Jennifer) of Montgomery, TX and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
