Billy (Bubba) Ray McPherson departed this life on August 24, 2021 in Los Angeles, CA. Billy was born on November 10, 1968, in San Angelo, Texas to Clifton R. McPherson and Matilda Smith. Billy moved to Hobbs as a 6th grader and attended Hobbs Municipal Schools. Billy found his vocational calling early. As a teenager, Billy fell in love with all things related to horses. He took that love and became an accomplished racehorse trainer. Billy trained and raced horses all over the United States and Mexico. Billy also was an accomplished BBQ pit master and was always ready to fire up the grill at family get-togethers.
Left behind to cherish his memory are two brothers: Clarence Ray Smith (Linda) of Arlington, TX and William Lee Smith of San Angelo, TX. Two Sisters: Janice McPherson Martinez (Jonathan) of Aurora, CO and Quatoma McPherson of Arlington, TX and a host of nieces and nephews. Also included in Billy’s circle of love are Thomas Peoples (Kathy) of Palestine, TX, Brenda Peoples Brooks (Tommy) of Albuquerque, NM and his loyal support dog, Candy Ray McPherson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton R. McPherson, and Matilda Smith Armstrong; one brother; Robert DeWayne Clark; one sister; Joyce Elaine Malone.
Family and friends are welcome at Griffin Funeral Home Monday, September 20 from 10am-12pm to pay their respects. A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
