Bobby Lance Nickels

June 23, 1957 ~ March 11, 2021 (age 63)

Bobby Lance Nickels, of Hobbs, passed into the gates of Heaven on March 11, 2021 unexpectedly. He was born in Muleshoe, Texas on June 23, 1957 to Bobby and Jo Nickels. One of two boys, he grew up in Muleshoe before moving to the Lea County Area in his early twenties. Growing up with his brother, they were very close, defending and picking on each other in equal measure. The two have remained close for the entirety of their lives. Lance and Bryan started Nickels Brothers Farms and worked together growing cotton, feed corn and peanuts for 30 years. After farming he worked a few different places before settling into work at WCS for the last six years. Lance’s greatest joy was his fiancé, Melody, with whom he spent the last 13 years. He was able to be with her and watch as she achieved her dreams of becoming a teacher and graduating college. He loved her more than life itself and would do anything for her, even watch reality TV.  Although he never had children of his own, he treated her daughters like his, and his grandchildren had him completely wrapped around their little fingers. He was the rock of the family, always looking after his mother, calling his brother every day and just being there to support those he loved in whatever way he could. Lance also had a passion for sports, he loved watching Texas Tech, OU and the Kansas City Chiefs as well as going to every Hobbs Eagles game he could since the 80’s. His big heart and loving presence will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Nickels.

Left to treasure the memories he’s left behind are his love Melody, mother Jo Ellen Nickels, brother Bryan Nickels, daughters of his heart Lindsey Jurado and Krystal Perez, grandchildren Nadalee Perez, Jasmine Perez, Miguel Perez, Arick Martinez and Ella Martinez and greatgrandson Aiden Rodriguez. Lance is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as so many good friends.
