Jakie Ford

Jakie Don Ford (82) of Bosque Farms, New Mexico went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 20, 2020.

Jakie Don was born in Arch, NM on November 12, 1938 to Roland Ervin and Quincy Elizabeth Ford. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1957 and went to work as a heavy equipment operator. One of his favorite jobs was building a road in the Gila Wilderness beginning at the river and ending at the Gila Cliff Dwellings. He went on to own Ford Enterprises and sell MoorMan's Feed for many years. He was an award winning salesman and avid auction attendee.

He married Patricia “Ann” Bigham on January 24, 1959 in Hobbs, NM and they had five beautiful daughters. Jakie loved livestock shows and mentoring young kids. He started with his daughters as a 4H steer, pig and lamb leader, and went on to help his grandchildren and many other kids in the community at the county and state level. If there was a fair within 100 miles you could find him there the entire week working with them. He was passionate about hard work and passed it on to many others. He and Ann loved opening their home to youth Bible study and you could always find their den full of kids. He coached Church softball and went on to coach little league for his grandsons. You could always find him with his camcorder on his shoulder (until they became hand held) making home videos of his family. He recorded every moment because his family was his greatest treasure. The grandkids love sitting around watching those VHS tapes, but he might have recorded over a birth or two in order to capture Clay’s high school baseball games. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and you could find him watching football every Sunday after Church - generally bantering with his son-in-laws. His giggle was infectious and he took great joy in making people laugh.

Jakie was preceded in death by his father, Roland Ervin Ford, his mother, Quincy Elizabeth Ford, two sisters, Garnita “Sis” Joiner and Wanita “Tuffy” Council, and two brothers Jessie “Bud” Ford and Arthur Ervin “Tommy” Ford.

Jakie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Ford, and five “Daddy’s Girls”, Tonja Ford of Sandia Park, NM; Monicque Carter and husband David of Hobbs, NM, Melissa Turnbow and husband Taylor of Peralta, NM, Misty Ford of Los Lunas, NM and Melette Campbell and husband Shawn of Aztec, NM.

His pride and joy - fifteen grandchildren, Clay Kerr (Dayle Renee), Cory Kerr (Nicole), Jason Saiz (Quannah), Jackie Brown (Josh), Joe Don Wright (Katy), Dylan Davis (Scott), Ashley Lovato (Josh), Aaron Dyer (Brody), Amanda Kerr (Cody), Bryandra Campbell-Perez (Isiah), Timothy Turnbow, (Joni), Kaleb Campbell, Alyxa Jiron (Isiac "Cali" Romero), Jensen Campbell, Landon Turnbow, and Dylan Carter, twenty great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, lifetime friends and others who called him Papa.
