Maria Garza

Maria Santos Garza departed this earth for her heavenly forever home on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the age of 85. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Maria was born April 23, 1935 in Kent, Tx to Francisco and Gavina Ortega. In 1953 she met the love of her life, Ernesto (Choy) B Garza, Together they raised 6 children in Hobbs, who were her whole world. Maria was known for her strength and perseverance. She knew more struggles throughout her life than many of us will ever know. Her faith sustained her; she trusted in God and he provided. She was a devout Catholic, a member of the Guadalupanas at Our Lady of Guadalupe and she embodied the same love, kindness, compassion and patience that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ does.

Taking care of her family was her mission in life and she did it with grace, dignity and love. She gave them the things that money can never buy; her special dessert (capirotada, empanadas and fresh cut watermelon and cantaloupe) , a shoulder to cry on, phone calls to check in, a stable home filled with faith, love, hope and happiness. There was never a time that they did not know just how very much she loved and treasured them. She ended every conversation with " God bless you and I love you " she said this to all who visited her on her final day before God called her home.

Maria was our Queen, the matriarch of the family. She was strong, amazing and beautiful, there is not a soul on Earth that did not love her. Her smile lite up a room with her grace, poise and greatness.

Maria was preceded in death by her father and mother, 6 brothers, 4 sisters, husband Ernesto (Choy) B Garza, son Joe O Garza, grandson Ruben C Garza. She is survived by her son Ruben O Garza of Hobbs, NM, daughter Esmeralda Garcia and husband Luis of Hobbs, NM, daughter Leonirez Botello of Hobbs, NM, daughter Norma Hinojos and husband Johnny of Hobbs, NM, daughter Monica Perry and husband Timothy of Crosby, TX, daughter Mary Carranza of Hobbs, NM, sister Linda Benavides, 25 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
